"Wizard of Oz" - An IMAX 3-D Experience

This past weekend was the debut of the "Wizard of Oz" - An IMAX 3-D Experience.  Of course this was something that sparked mine and my husband's interest!  My husband and I are not frequent movie-goers given that we think it is too pricey and there is always something better to do that we do not have to spend to much money doing!  We have lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for almost 5 years and have only been to the movie theater a total of 3 times.  I particularly like to get creative with things-to-do, so I consider the moves a last-place option for entertainment.  Once him and I heard about the "Wizard of Oz" premiering in 3-D for the first time, we were really excited!  The best part of it all was that this would be our 4 year-old daughter's first movie theater experience and going to an IMAX theater would make it even more exciting!  We were so excited that we even bought tickets ahead of time, in case it would be a sold-out event.

Of course we pumped it up for our daughter, so she would get excited about her first movie theater experience.  She was definitely looking forward to it.  As soon as we got to the movie theater, we took photos with the large movie poster, got her a booster seat and we sat through the previous, then it was time to put on our 3-D glasses.  Movie trailers for upcoming IMAX/3-D movies and it looked so cool, so she was really looking forward to the movie.

Was it worth it to watch the "Wizard of Oz" in 3-D?

The movie started and it was neat for the first 20-30 minutes.  After that, I forgot I was watching it in 3-D.  The movie is such an old movie that was not originally created for 3-D, so there were no real special effects that made it any different than watching it on DVD in the comfort of my own home.  If it was not for the fact that this made my daughter's first movie theater experience exciting, we would not have wasted the money to watch it.  IMAX was $12 per person (including my 4 year-old) + $6 for a bag of popcorn!  It was not worth the $40+ we spent as a family to watch this movie.  To reiterate...this movie was a complete waste of money, no added special effects that made me love the 3-D experience of it all.

PARENTS: Do not waste your money, unless you are a "Wizard of Oz" movie junkie!  Buy, rent or borrow the "Wizard of Oz" movie and watch it in the comforts of home, where you can provide your own snacks, stop/rewind/forward movie whenever you want.
